Mohammeds followers instituted the Pact of Omar for the Jews and Christians, with rules to follow if they were to keep their piety under Mohammeds rule. The Jews had to pay a tax for shield and exemption from military service, were veto to hold government office, and were forbidden from acting too much like the Muslims; meaning they couldnt copy and style of dress or mimic their actions. They besides had to subdue their own culture in presence of a Muslim. This is very different than what we have in America today. The Jews be treated the same as Christians by the country, despite individualized anti-semitism. We have the same rules as Christians and Muslims. This document is still level-headed for the Jews because under many other rulers the Jews were labored to abandon their worship; convert or die. The Pact of Omar allowed the Jews to continue Jewish traditions and pass away them on the next generation while under Muslim rule. They were non persecuted for their Judaism, they were just told to keep it out of the way of the Muslims, which was approving considering their Judaism couldve been taken away.




They Muslims still thought of the Jews as lesser people, who werent as good as the Muslims, not even allowed to wear out the same clothes, or wear the same jewelry. They were viewed as infidels, not allowed to learn the Koran or even the Arabic language, for fright that they might ruin it. The Christians were viewed the same as the Jews, both were the great unwashed of the Book, and the same rules that applied to the Jews applied to them. They were also not allowed to presentment their symbol, the cross, anywhere, and werent allowed to do any of their rituals in the streets where Muslims lived.
