Thomas Hobbes wrote the Leviathan in a time of political fervour responding to the English civil war of the 1640s. The importance of the context shows in his interpretation of a correct stamp of government, that being monarchy. As a Royalist, he supported the absolute rule of queen mole rat Charles I and his writings were published while the commonwealth searched for a justification of regicide. He forms a few understandings about the birth between a government and the people, representation, authority and obedience, and the best form of government. I agree with his notions of affinity, obedience, and I somewhat agree with his order of public representation. However, I disagree with his correct form of government. His head is that the Leviathan is governed by a sole sovereign, but he bed quickly become a despotical and tyrannical drawing card as the nature of man clearly shows. As he states in the laws of nature, man is self serving and will do anything to preserve his own life and prosperity. From this I believe that a representative democracy is the best form of government as it requires a check to the decisions of the sovereign.

Dominion in Hobbes argument is the control over a people, the inalienable properly of a sovereign to govern. In chapter XX, Hobbes shows the two bureaus in which dominion is acquired: by force or by inheritance, or despotical and paternal dominion. Hobbes writes, The right of dominion by generation is that which the parent hath over his children, and is called Paternal (Hobbes 128). Through this point Hobbes outlines the way in which a government should relate to its subjects and vice versa.
