The Issue Of Social Generalization In “Strangers”

In Toni Morrison’s article “Strangers”, she uses her experience with a stranger, a fisherwoman, to address a view many people oftentimes have in perceiving strangers. She basic uses a familiar lyric to describe the brushwood with a fascinating fisherwoman and their inspiring pour forth; however she is disturbed when the woman does not appear in the village anymore, and that the woman’s appearance seems to be untrue to other people. Later on, Morrison gradually brings up the main vagary of the essay, an analytical view on strangers, concluding that “there ar no strangers” (par. 8) but “only versions of ourselves” (par. 8).
