This is a painting by Georges Seurat from the year 1884-1886. Georges Pierre Seurat was a french neo-impressionist painter along with fellow artist Paul Signac originated the influential theory and practice of the neoimpressionism. Georges Seurat used oil on try and he concentrated on the issues of discolour, light, and form.  The painting is approximately 2 by 3 meters (6 ft 10 in x 10 ft 1 in) in size. Georges Seurat was motivated by study in optical and color theory, Georges Seurat contrasted miniature dots of color that, through optical unification, form a single imbue in the viewers eye. He believed that this form of painting, now known as pointillism, would make the colors more than brilliant and powerful than cadence brush strokes. To make the experience of the painting even more vivid, he surrounded it with a frame of painted dots, which in turn he enclosed with a pure white, wooden frame.
In creating the picture, Georges Seurat employed the then-new pigment zinc yellow (zinc chromate), nigh visibly for yellow highlights on the lawn in the painting, but withal in mixtures with orange and blue pigments. In the century and more since the paintings completion, the zinc yellow has darkened to brownâ€"a color degeneration that was already showing in the painting in Georges Seurats lifetime.
The island of la Grande Jatte is in the Seine in Paris surrounded by La Defense and the suburb of Neuilly, bisected by the Pont-de-Levallois. Although for many historic period it was an industrial site, it is today the site of a public tend and a housing development.
