Training Seeing bosom Dogs for the Blind
In the spend of 89 my sister and I were asked to train Seeing Eye Dogs for the Blind by the local veterinarian. He was a shut down family friend, thats why he asked us. We told him we would be thrilled to befriend in both way. My sister reliable a dark-brown and black German shepherd named Magic and I received a solid black German shepherd named Dancer. Theyre mothers name was Midnight Dancer. We had to train these dogs basic obedience skills. They wore a reign pretty much all the time. We had choke collars, but they were unaccompanied to be used if they were a little out of control, which these 2 were not. They were both easily trainable from the get go.
These dogs lived with us and were on a strict diet. Table food was strictly prohibited! We oerly had to bathe them once a week and brush their coats daily. We real took them to an obedience school to teach them the basic commands and then slews of practice at home. We taught them how to heal which was to pull forward a couple of times on the leash that was connected to their harness. To give away them sit you pulled straight up.
While they are in a sitting position you put your hand in figurehead of their face and motion downwards for them to lie down.
We would take them any and every where a human being might go. We had to head them in grocery stores, restaurants, parks, and even on busy streets and over bridges, which was sometimes scary! We had to actually go shopping comparable at a grocery store with them so they would be accustomed to their owner carrying a lot of bags as they walked in case it scared the dog. We also had to make sure the dogs were genial with other animate beings because we couldnt allow the dog to see an animal and chase after it with its blind owner. We had to take them to outings where there would be a huge crowd of people. We had to test them around meretricious noises and music.
