Personal Mission
I was raised in a fiddling rural southern t birth which pushed the nonion of special needs children under the rug. A cousin, who was a lot elder than me, was hit by a car at the get along of five. He suffered significant brain damage and was put into a long term hospital for many years. This practice was the conceit instilled in me for until I was older. Then anytime I spoke with mortal who had experienced special education in the school agreement they would say it was just a babysitting service. The information plurality had was special needs children were dumb and could not learn. Within the decision 20+ years has in become a credit that they can still learn with the help of the school system. It wasnt until I became involved in special education because of my own child that I truly understood how it really worked.
Children with disabilities did not al fashions attend school with regular education children. anterior to the 60s, parents either took care of the children at home or paid for a private education. A group of parents make an advocacy group to fight for their children to be included in public school education.
In 1962, President Lyndon B. Johnson sign a bill into law called The Elementary and Secondary Education modus operandi (ESEA). Many parents thought this law would help pave the way for their special needs children to attend school, but it did very little. ex years later, The Education for Handicapped Children moment (EHA) and The Individual with Disabilities Act was made into federal law. The EHA provided funding to the states so students with disabilities have glide slope to a free public education. While the IDEA say the school systems must tailor the education so it is distinguish to their needs.
