DISCUSSION

The  flying field of Ancient Greece, or ancient Greek drama, is a culture that developed in ancient Greece between the long time 550 BC and 220 BC. Athens, which became a significant cultural power during this period, was its centre. This was branch of a festival c everyed the Dionysia, which honored the god Dionysus. Tragedy (late sixth century BC),comedy (486 BC), and the satyr play were the three dramatic genres to issue there. Athens exported the festival to its numerous colonies and allies in show to promote a common cultural identity. Western theatre originated in Athens and its drama has had a significant and sustained impact on northern culture as a whole.
2.1. Introduction to Sophocles
Sophocles was one of the most famous and respected and all of Greek playwrights. He wrote Antigone as a part of trilogy of plays that refer around the legend Oedipus. It is believed that Sophocles wrote Antigone in approximately 422 B.C.
Colonus, a liquidation near Athens, was the place of Sophocles birth, and the date, 495 B.C., thus making him thirty days jr. than Aeschylusand fifteen years older than Euripides. His father, Sophilus, a gay of wealth and excellent repute, gave him the benefit of all the literary execution of the age.

In his younger days he appears to have been somewhat over affectionate of women and wine, and this he himself admits in one of his sayings recorded by Plato: I thank old age for delivering me from the tyranny of my appetites. Yet, even in his later years, the charms of the gentler sex were at times too watertight for the great dramatist.
