Oral History Paper Unera Ikharia is an African woman who was born(p) June 30, 1940 in Edo State. Edo reconcile is an inland state located in central southern Nigeria. Today, Unera lives in Nigeria however, she is hither on a travel visa caring for her grandchildren time her daughter attends Johns Hopkins University. Unera is married with six children, two of which lives in the linked States, while the others live Nigeria. Uneras husband practices polygamy; she is one of fiver wives. Unera has worked as a seamstress sewing tribal clo topic and as a farmer growing crops. Unera is a Moslem who worships Allah and attends the mosque frequently to pray. I do not personally bonk Unera however; shes my best friend grandmother. The unify States remains the chief receiving nation for immigrants. Many people migrate to the States to make better lives for themselves and their children. Unera prefers life in her homeland oer life in the United States for several reasons. In the United States, Unera is not used to the Statess way of living and in Nigeria she is contact by an area of people and places that she has known her entire life. America prides itself on civil liberties and freedom however; Unera feels that her homeland allows her more freedom than the United States.

In Nigeria, Unera feels that she has the freedom to travel as she pleases, to work, to cook, and to enjoy the company of her family and culture. Living in the United States is multiform for Unera because she finds it difficult to adapt to a new environment. In Uneras homeland she describes her village and surrounding villages as in base on balls distance, whereas in America transportation is a necessity. Another thing that Unera finds difficult in America is her communication skills. During our interview, Unera family members translated many of her answers to me.
