Danny and Sandy, from Ridell High School, find each other a century later. Though they attend the same cultivate, they come from vastly different worlds. Yet, when they first meet it is outside of their conflicting worlds. Sandy's family is tour the United States from Australia for the summer. ens with the implemental "Love is a M each Splendored Thing," and the audience observes Danny and Sandy dictum goodbye to each other after a summer of love at the beach. The next scene then jumps to the disorderly first day of school, depicting Sandy as a lost innocent in the jungle of adolescents and teachers. In the midst of this chaos, Frenchy (Didi Conn) takes pity on Sandy and welcomes her into the girl gang, the Pink Ladies, to interject her around and ask her about her summer. Meanwhile, Danny is telling the guys in his gang about the "babe" that he saw over the summer.
What follows is the span "Summer Nights," where two completely different stories of the same case emerge from the romantic Sandy and the raunchy Danny.
Finally, what makes Oklahoma! so different from Grease, besides the time frame, setting, and some of the societal rules, is the berth of Laurey versus the role of Sandy in each of these films. Although both are nanve and innocent, Laurey is saved from making any brash mistakes by her aunt Eller and Curly, who are experienced and responsible enough to see the take chances she takes. In this manner, the relationship between Laurey and Curly matures, because Laurey matures. In a sense, however, Sandy goes from being a responsible person, to an irresponsible, risk-taking one, all for the interest of Danny. Sandy is not rescued by Danny in any sense of the word. In fact, the point could be made that Sandy, in her choice to risk who she is by changing so drastically, has stepped forrad to rescue both herself and Danny.
